It has long been a practice of Al-Anon/Alateen Family Groups to reach out to provide help, hope, and information to Institutions such as hospitals, treatment centers, correctional and residential facilities, prisons, work farms, jails, correctional schools. We offer to bring experienced Al-Anon/Alateen members to help lead meetings, provide literature and meeting directories to refer families and friends to other groups near their homes. Families and friends may be relieved to find that alcoholism is a disease and the effects of alcoholism are often a contributory cause of the relative or friend being confined.
Professionals in medicine, religion, law
and education, and employers, governments, courts, prisons, and mental
hospitals are often some of the first to be consulted or to recognize the pain
of the relative or friend of the alcoholic. We provide goodwill and facilitate
an exchange of information to professionals that Al-Anon and Alateen are
resources for families and friends of alcoholics. We understand, as perhaps few
others can.

Al-Anon Speaks Out is a complimentary newsletter for professionals and is published biannually. It provides an explanation of the Al-Anon/Alateen program and how it works; reports on developments and items of interest in the fellowship; and explains how members cooperate with the professional community. Al-Anon Speaks Out, located on our World Service web site, has several articles of interest to professionals. THANK YOU!! The 1999 Membership Survey indicates that 51% of our membership attended their first Al-Anon meeting as a result of professional referrals.
